UK’S STARMER WELCOMES OVERTHROW OF SYRIA’S ASSAD – Saying, it was important to find a political way forward

Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Sunday,he welcomed the end of President Bashar al-Assad’s “brutal regime”.

Speaking from Abu Dhabi, where he arrived on Sunday to begin a multi-day trip to the Gulf, Starmer said he welcomed the overthrow of Assad, but it was important to find a political way forward.

Stability in the Middle East is expected to be “high up the agenda” during his visit to the region, including the pressing need for a ceasefire between Israel and Gaza, the release of all hostages, and the urgent acceleration of aid into Gaza, the government said in a statement on Saturday, December 7th.

Starmer will then travel to Cyprus to meet President Nikos Christodoulides on Tuesday, December 10th, the first bilateral visit by a British leader to the Commonwealth country in over five decades, to discuss closer cooperation on shared security challenges in the region, the statement added.
