SPAIN’S DEPUTY PM SAYS MINE ACCIDENT MUST NOT HAPPEN AGAIN- Regional leader Adrian Barbon declared two days of mourning
Spanish deputy Prime Minister Yolanda Diaz has stated that the blast at a coal mine that killed five miners and injured four should not have happened in today’s Spain.
Speaking at the site of the accident in Degana, in the northern Spanish region of Asturias, Diaz said that the government would take appropriate action, once the investigations are concluded, to avoid a repeat of the machine malfunction that is believed to have caused the incident.
The emergency services said the malfunction occurred inside the Degana mine at 07:32 GMT local time on Monday. Three helicopters and two ambulances were sent to the scene.
Regional leader Adrian Barbon declared two days of mourning and Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez expressed his condolences to the victims’ relatives on social messaging platform X.
