TRUDEAU SAYS HE WILL NOT RE-RUN IN NEXT ELECTION – Canada’s federal elections are scheduled for October 2025

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he will not be running for office in Canada’s upcoming election. This comes just over a week after Trudeau announced he would step down as leader of the Liberal Party as soon as a new leader is elected.

Potential contestants for the post of Prime Minister have till 23 January to formally join the race. Speculated contenders expected to join the race for Prime minister include former Bank of Canada (and Bank of England) Governor Mark Carney and former Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland

The Liberals will choose a new leader to replace Trudeau after a national leadership race on 9 March.
