CHINESE OFFICIALS DISCUSS SELLING U.S. TIKTOK OPERATIONS TO ELON MUSK – TikTok is under pressure to comply with a U.S. law requiring its sale due to national security concerns

Chinese officials have reportedly considered selling TikTok’s U.S. operations to Elon Musk as the app faces a potential ban in America starting January 19.

TikTok, owned by Chinese tech giant ByteDance, is under pressure to comply with a U.S. law requiring its sale due to national security concerns. Failure to comply could result in its removal from U.S. app stores.

Last week, TikTok argued the ban violates its free speech rights before the Supreme Court,  although several justices signalled during the hearing they could uphold the law.

While ByteDance has consistently denied plans to sell, Bloomberg reported that Beijing advisers are exploring compromises with the incoming Trump administration. One proposal includes selling TikTok’s U.S. operations to Musk’s X, formerly Twitter.
