A murder investigation is under way after a man was found shot and stabbed in north London.

The victim, who was in his late 20s, was discovered in a street in Enfield just after midnight early on Saturday.

He died at the scene half an hour after police were called to reports of shots being fired.

He was found in South Street with stab wounds and a gunshot wound.

A second man was also found with stab injuries and was taken to a hospital in east London, where he is in a serious but stable condition.

A post-mortem examination was yet to take place.

The victim’s family has been informed of his death.

“Detectives from the homicide and major crime command are investigating,” a Metropolitan Police spokesperson said.

“There have been no arrests and enquiries continue.”

Earlier this year it was predicted that if stabbings continued at the same rate more would have taken place by June than in the whole of 2017.
