MEXICAN PRESIDENT ASSURES TRUMP – No Migrant Caravans will Enter US From Mexico
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum assured U.S. President-Elect Donald Trump on a call on Wednesday that no migrant caravans will be reaching the border between their countries.
“THIS WILL GO A LONG WAY TOWARD STOPPING THE ILLEGAL INVASION OF THE USA. Thank you!!!,” Trump said in a post on the social media platform Truth.
This is an early vindication of President-Elect Trump’s threat to apply Tariffs on Mexico.
The leaders also discussed security issues and drug trafficking during their call, according to posts on social media made by Trump and Sheinbaum.
Tensions arose between the North American and Chinese leaders after Trump vowed to impose tariffs on Mexico and China unless they stopped the flow of the opioid fentanyl and migrants across the U.S. border.
China remains the primary source of fentanyl and fentanyl-related substances trafficked through international mail and trafficked across the border by migrants into the United States.
Fentanyl is 50-100 times stronger than heroin or morphine, meaning even a small dosage can be deadly. Close to 83,000 people died from opioid overdoses in the United States, the majority from fentanyl, according to the CDC.
