MAJOR DISRUPTION ON RAILWAYS AS UK HEADS BACK TO WORK – Hundreds of flood warnings and alerts in place
Storm Bert hit the UK today, hundreds of flood and storm warnings are in place across the country and rail travel has become difficult for many. Train services are heavily disrupted and some roads are blocked.
Train operators have warned commuters not to travel on certain lines this morning due to disruptions linked to severe weather.
Northamptonshire Police say they are still receiving many calls relating to Storm Bert.
Storm Bert caused significant river and surface water flooding in parts of England on Sunday, especially in the South West, the West Midlands, and the Calder and Weaver Valleys in the North of England.
80 properties have been confirmed to have been flooded in England. So far, the Environment Agency estimates 23,000 properties have been protected.
Flood Duty Manager at the Environment Agency, Andrew Hitchings, says Environment Agency teams have been dispatched to take action to reduce the impact of flooding and will support local authorities in their response.
Flooding Minister Emma Hardy has also urged people to check their flood risk, sign up for flood warnings and follow the latest guidance from emergency responders.
