G7 FOREIGN MINISTERS GATHER IN JAPAN FOR MEETING – The seven nations’ foreign ministers will start meeting sessions from Monday
The Group of Seven thats the G7 foreign ministers gathered on April 17th to kick off their summit in Karuizawa, Japan and hold discussions on various topics, including the need for a united approach on the Ukraine war, China, and concerns about Taiwan.
Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi said he rejected Russia’s attempt to change the status quo by force in Ukraine and their threats of nuclear weapons in his opening remarks.
China is expected to be front and centre of discussions during the G7 foreign ministers summit, which comes ahead of a leaders summit that Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will host in Hiroshima next month.
As the only Asian member of the grouping, Japan has deepening worries about neighbour China’s growing might in the region and is particularly focused on the possibility of military action against Taiwan.
