CIVIL SERVANTS TO STRIKE OVER DEMANDS TO WORK FROM OFFICE – Government officials at the Land Registry to strike over new rules
Civil servants are set to strike next month, criticizing new rules requiring them to work from the office three days a week as “Victorian” management practices.
Thousands of staff at the Land Registry, represented by the PCS Union, voted for the walkout, arguing the office attendance targets do not improve productivity and are widely unpopular among employees.
PCS General Secretary Fran Heathcote urged ministers to reconsider, stating, “To foster a motivated workforce, ministers should trust employees to have input on their working conditions, instead of imposing rigid rules.” She added that strike action could still be avoided if management ends the dispute.
The strike follows similar actions by Met Police staff and Office for National Statistics employees, who have pushed back against returning to the office, citing the “stress of the daily commute” and advocating for continued remote work flexibility.
