The RSPCA is urging people not to buy dogs with cropped ears after a surge in the number of reports about the illegal practise. Nissan is set to cut hundreds of jobs at its plant in Sunderland because of a fall in demand for diesel-powered cars. UK financial regulators plan to fine Barclays chief executive Jes Staley over attempts to uncover the author of an anonymous letter. Retail sales fell by 1.2% in March as freezing weather kept shoppers at home, official figures show.
