YEMEN’S HOUTHIS CLAIM FRESH ATTACKS ON CARGO SHIP IN RED SEA All crew members on board were safe with no injuries reported
Yemen’s Houthi forces on Tuesday claimed responsibility for fresh missile attacks on a commercial ship in the Red Sea.
Earlier in the day, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), a British maritime observer agency, received a report that an explosion occurred in the Red Sea area near Yemen, as the sound of the explosion was heard, and missiles were spotted at the very sea area.
The UKMTO’s report said the incident took place approximately 60 nautical miles (111 kilometers) from the Yemeni port of Hodeidah or Al Hudaydah, which is under the control of the Houthi forces, adding that the vessel and crew “are safe.”
The Mediterranean Shipping Company said on the same day that one of its merchant vessels was attacked in the Red Sea, while all crew members on board were safe with no injuries reported. The ship has been currently undergoing a thorough assessment, said the company.
Also, on Tuesday, the United States Central Command stated that U.S. destroyers and aircraft from the USS Eisenhower aircraft carrier intercepted 12 attack drones and five missiles launched by Houthi forces in the Red Sea region. No vessels were reported to have been damaged in these attacks, and no casualties were reported.
Since the outbreak of the latest round of Palestinian-Israeli conflict on Oct 7, Eilat, the only Israeli port in the Red Sea, and Israeli-linked ships in the Red Sea have come under recurrent Houthi attacks.
