UN MEMBER STATES CALL FOR SECURITY COUNCIL REFORMS- Member states also demand to end veto power for select nations
Several UN member states have called for reforms of the UN security council at the general assembly of the UN
Turkey’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hakan Fidan, has called for a reform of the United Nations during the General Assembly’s “Summit for the Future.”
Fidan called for changes to the Security Council, saying that the United Nations cannot display the leadership that it should in the face of ever-growing threats against humanity
“International peace and security cannot be left to the will of a privileged clique consisting of a limited number of countries,” he said.
Chilean President Gabriel Boric also called on the United Nations to reform and eliminate the veto power held by certain countries during the ongoing Summit at the General Assembly. Boric stated that the UN is made in the form of a world that no longer exists.
