THOUSANDS PROTEST OVER AMNESTY IN MADRID AFTER INTENSE INVESTITURE DEBATE Protest over a new term for acting Prime Minister

Thousands of protesters gathered in front of Spain’s Socialists headquarters after an intense investiture debate for a new term of acting prime minister Pedro Sanchez.

Sanchez, whose offer of an amnesty to Catalan separatists in return for support has roused protests, has won the backing of Catalan separatist parties Junts and Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC), and other regional parties, what would be enough support to win a vote scheduled for Thursday (November 15).

Holding signs reading “Sanchez, traitor” and waving Spanish flags, thousands demonstrated for 13 nights in a row near the Socialists headquarters.

The amnesty deal has prompted a wave of protests across Spain. Authorities said 80,000 people gathered in Madrid on Sunday, while tens of thousands attended demonstrations in Granada and Seville.
