POLICE ARREST SUSPECTS AFTER MAJOR SECURITY BREACH AT INDIA’S PARLIAMENT Four suspects have been arrested

Four suspects have been arrested after a major security breach at India’s lower house of parliament on the 22nd anniversary of a deadly attack on the complex.

India Today said the intruder who jumped into the lawmakers’ area had smoke cans hidden in his shoes that later released smoke, sending lawmakers fleeing from the chambers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not in parliament at the time. The lower house stopped proceedings soon after the incident but resumed business about an hour later.

The incident took place in the new, high-security parliament building inaugurated by Modi in May.

In 2001, more than a dozen people, including five gunmen, were killed in an attack on the old building in the same complex, which New Delhi blames on Pakistan-based militants.
