MIGRATION LEVELS TOO HIGH, SAYS UK PM SUNAK Illegal migration hit a record of 745,000 last year

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said the number of migrants to the UK was ‘too high’ on Friday after net migration broke record figures for 2022.

Annual net migration to the United Kingdom hit a record of 745,000 last year and has stayed at elevated levels, official figures out last week have shown.

Speaking from a car factory in northern England, Sunak said the country needed to bring the number down to ‘more sustainable levels.’

High levels of legal migration have for more than a decade dominated Britain’s political landscape and will be a key battleground again in the vote which is expected next year.

The data is a fresh setback for Sunak, whose flagship policy to tackle illegal arrivals was all but dashed last week by a court ruling that a plan to send asylum seekers to Rwanda was unlawful.
