INDIA’S FIRST TRANSGENDER CLINIC SHUTS DOWN – Due to USAID fund freeze
India’s first transgender clinic, Mitr Clinic in Hyderabad, forcefully shuts down as a result of President Trump’s administration’s decision to stop U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) funding.
The clinic closed down after President Trump announced a 90-day freeze on U.S. foreign assistance allocations, including the USAID.
The clinic, which was established in January 2021 through a partnership between USAID and Johns Hopkins University, operated under the USAID-funded Project ACCELERATE.
USAID has been under serious scrutiny by Trump’s government due to numerous pieces of evidence uncovered that reportedly show USAID’s funding of terrorist organisations, and grants to influence foreign governments and media organisations
The Indian authorities are also investigating claims that the USAID allocated $21 million to influence Indian elections, based on a report from the Department of Government Efficiency led by Elon Musk.
