BUS FARE CAP RISES IN ENGLAND – Bus passengers across England faced an increase in single fares from £2 to £3

Bus passengers in England will see single fares rise from £2 to £3 starting Wednesday, marking what campaign groups describe as a “costly start” to 2025.
The £2 cap, introduced by the Conservative government to address rising living costs, is being replaced with a £3 limit. The Department for Transport says the additional revenue will support bus services in rural communities and towns heavily reliant on public transport.

The new £3 cap, covering most bus journeys in England, will remain in place until the end of 2025. Lower fares in urban areas will only increase in line with inflation.
Buses remain the most widely used form of public transport in Great Britain, but thousands of routes have been cut in recent years due to financial pressures on local councils.
