ALDI INTRODUCES £10 PRE-PAYMENT FOR CHECKOUT-FREE SHOPPING – The trial is currently running at Aldi’s only Shop & Go store in Greenwich, London

Aldi is introducing a £10 pre-payment system at its Shop & Go stores, changing the way customers check out. Shoppers must use the Aldi Shop & Go app or tap a contactless card to enter the store, where a £10 charge will be applied and later deducted from their final bill.

The system allows customers to walk out without traditional checkouts, as AI-powered cameras track purchases in real-time. However, those who spend less than £10 or leave without buying anything may face delays before the money is refunded. Aldi has warned that the reversal process could take several days, depending on the bank.

The trial is currently running at Aldi’s only Shop & Go store in Greenwich, London, which opened in 2022. Amazon Fresh and Tesco’s GetGo stores have used similar checkout-free technology.
