WILDFIRES IN JAPAN CONTINUE ON THE FOURTH DAY- Firefighters struggle to contain blaze
The wildfire that started in Japan’s Ehime Prefecture has reportedly entered its fourth day today, burning approximately 306 hectares of land and triggering an evacuation order for thousands of people.
Nearly 6,000 residents were ordered to evacuate in the city of Imabari due to the fire that has destroyed multiple buildings since Sunday, disrupting traffic and closing highways in the prefecture.
Firefighters were seen struggling to control the blaze which is showing no signs of being brought under control. Helicopters have also been also activated to douse the fire from the air.
A separate wildfire that also started on Sunday in Okayama prefecture in southwestern Japan destroyed 423 hectares of land and placed an evacuation order for about 2,000 residents. Six buildings have reportedly been damaged but no injuries have been reported in the prefecture.
Another wildfire started in Miyazaki Prefecture on Tuesday, burning 50 hectares of land and prompting an evacuation order to 70 households.
