UKRAINE ENVOY WARNS AGAINST ‘APPEASEMENT’ TOWARDS PUTIN – Ukraine has asked allies for further help to counter Russia
A Ukrainian diplomat warned against any attempt to appease Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying that the latest strikes on Ukraine showed he had no desire for peace and asked allies for further help to counter Russia.
Russia pounded Ukraine’s power grid in the largest air strike in almost three months on Sunday, in a move that Ukraine’s ambassador to the U.N. in Geneva said showed Putin’s determination to continue the war 1,000 days after Russia’s invasion.
“They demonstrate that Putin doesn’t want peace. He wants war,” Yevheniia Filipenko, Ukrainian ambassador to the U.N. in Geneva, told reporters in an interview on Monday.
In an important policy shift, President Joe Biden’s administration has allowed Ukraine to use U.S.-made weapons to strike deep into Russia. The Kremlin has called the decision reckless and warned that it would raise the risk of confrontation with the U.S.-led NATO alliance.
