Graduates who set up businesses in Britain that employs 10 people for five years will have their student loans wiped, British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt, one of the two contenders to replace Prime Minister Theresa May next month, pledged on Wednesday.
University tuition fees in England are high compared with elsewhere in Europe at around 9,000 pounds a year and has been a hot political topic since the Conservative-led government raised tuition fees, which caused mass student protests in 2010.
Hunt also took aim at his rival Boris Johnson, the favourite to become British prime minister who cancelled an appearance for a televised debate on Tuesday.
The two contenders are now hoping to win over the governing Conservatives’ around 160,000 members, whose votes will ultimately decide who becomes prime minister.
