STARMER REITERATES DECISION TO INCREASE DEFENCE SPENDING-Starmer says he would host world leaders this weekend in London

Keir Starmer has announced that Britain will “fight for peace in Europe” with a generational increase in defence spending paid for by slashing the foreign aid budget.

Starmer reiterated his decision to increase defence spending, adding that the budget would rise to 2.5% of GDP by 2027 – three years earlier than planned – and also expressing an ambition to reach 3%.

Keir Starmer has said he would host a number of world leaders over the weekend, adding that they would be discussing how to go forward together as allies in light of the situation that we face.

Starmer also said he had spoken to French President Emanuel Macron earlier on Tuesday following his return from Washington, where he met U.S. President Donald Trump.

Starmer added that an increase in defence spending would maximise British jobs and growth, and described it as an opportunity to rebuild the country’s industrial base.
