MURRAY ADVANCES TO INDIAN WELLS SECOND ROUND TO FACE RUBLEV – Andy Murray sealed a 6-3 6-2 victory over Belgian qualifier David Goffin 

Andy Murray sealed a straightforward 6-3 6-2 victory over Belgian qualifier David Goffin in the first round at Indian Wells.

The three-time major winner put in a solid serving performance, winning 85% of his first serve points while not facing a single break point.

The victory sees Murray’s head-to-head record with Goffin improve to 8-0, having first played the 2017 ATP Finals champion in 2010.

Murray is now 31-15 across 16 appearances at the ATP 1000 event in the California desert, with his best run coming in 2009 when he reached the final before losing to Rafael Nadal.

Having started 2024 with four-straight first-round exits and hinted at retirement, the 36-year-old Scotsman is now 3-6 for the season and will meet fifth seed Andrey Rublev in the second round on Friday.
