JAPAN PM ISHIBA SEEKS TO STRENGTHEN TIES WITH MALAYSIA-Ishiba seeks to foster cooperation with ASEAN nations

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba emphasised the need to strengthen ties with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) after holding talks with his Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim in Putrajaya today.

Speaking at a joint news conference, Ishiba underscored Japan’s focus on enhancing cooperation with ASEAN nations.

Ishiba who highlighted Malaysia’s pivotal role as the current ASEAN chair, stated that strengthening cooperation with ASEAN and Southeast Asia is also a top priority for Japan

The two leaders also discussed regional security concerns, including tensions in the East and South China Seas, the Middle East, and Myanmar.

Ishiba is on a four-day trip to Malaysia and Indonesia to strengthen bilateral ties in the region. The visit also underscores Japan’s efforts to collaborate with Malaysia in promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific.
