GERMANY’S OUTGOING CABINET RECEIVE DISMISSAL PAPERS- Chancellor Scholz, cabinet ministers are officially dismissed by President Steinmeier

Outgoing German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and his cabinet ministers received their official dismissal papers from German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Tuesday (March 25) in Berlin. Scholz, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, Defence Minister Boris Pistorius and other ministers attended the ceremony at Schloss Bellevue, the official residence of the head of state in Berlin.

“It is part of the history of your coalition that your alliance broke up before its time. The different views on how to reconcile maintaining the debt break and at the same time reacting appropriately to crises ultimately led to irreconcilable differences within the government”, said Steinmeier in his speech. The government came to an end last November after the “traffic light” coalition of Social Democrats, Greens and Liberals ended over disagreements about austerity measures.

Scholz and his cabinet will continue as caretaker government until a new chancellor is sworn in in the coming weeks.
