British Prime Minister Boris Johnson met people involved in the Whaley Bridge reservoir dam operation on Friday.
Johnson visited a school near the dam in central England, where some of the emergency services operations were being coordinated.
Earlier on Friday a British military helicopter dropped sacks of ballast onto the outer slope of the dam in a bid to prevent it collapsing and flooding the town below.
Police were evacuating more than 6,000 residents, telling them to take pets and any medication they needed with them after the dam was badly damaged during heavy rains.
