The body of a two-year-old boy snatched by an alligator at a Disney resort in Florida has been recovered. The child, named as Lane Graves, was paddling in a foot of water on a beach beside the Seven Seas Lagoon on Tuesday night when the animal dragged him away. Boats, a helicopter and scores of police officers were involved in the search – and a body has now been recovered. Lane is believed to have been drowned by the alligator. The Libyan coastguard has told Reporters that the EU’s Operation Sophia, which was devised to prevent people smuggling, is actually encouraging illegal migrants to make the perilous journey to Europe. Libya has become one of the main routes to the continent following a controversial EU deal with Turkey to close down the crossing to Greece across the Aegean Sea. At least 36 people were arrested on another night of trouble in Lille which culminated in riot police repeatedly charging at England fans. Tear gas, pepper spray and batons were used on English – and some Welsh – fans several times on a day when 16 people were taken to hospital. After a tense stand-off at about 10pm, police rushed at a group of approximately 200 rowdy supporters who were singing and setting off flares outside a pub.

The Governor of the Bank of England has sent an angry response to one of the most senior figures in the Vote Leave campaign after being warned about rules banning “any public comment” in the run up to the referendum. Rolls-Royce has become the latest industry giant to back the Remain campaign, after urging its employees to vote to stay in the European Union at next week’s referendum. Warren East, the engineering giant’s chief executive, warned that leaving the 28-country bloc would give Rolls-Royce’s American rivals a head start in the market, adding a £65m ($92.1m, €82.2m) investment plan could be put at risk.  The UK labour market delivered good news to George Osborne, as figures released on 15 June by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed unemployment fell in May and the unemployment rate was the lowest since October 2005. Sir Philip Green has apologised for the demise of BHS, saying “nothing is more sad than how this has ended”. The billionaire, whose empire includes Top Shop and Dorothy Perkins, is giving evidence to MPs about the BHS collapse. Sir Philip sold BHS last year for £1, but its collapse with the loss of up to 11,000 jobs has left a huge hole in the pension scheme. BHS went into administration in late April. After no buyer could be found, administrators Duff and Phelps announced that BHS would be wound down, with the shops closed by the end of July.

Leave campaigners have set out a “roadmap” for the UK to “take back control” if it votes to leave the EU. Parliament should act to end free movement and curb the power of EU courts, Vote Leave said. The government has warned of a “decade of uncertainty” as the UK attempts to disentangle itself from Brussels and form new trade deals. But Vote Leave said a new settlement – including a UK-EU free trade deal – would be possible by May 2020. The UK votes on whether to remain in the EU or to leave on 23 June.
