One Atlanta street preacher is taking Georgia authorities to court over efforts to keep him from sharing the Gospel on public sidewalks. Evangelist Eric Love says he was banned from preaching about redemption through Jesus Christ while standing outside the Shady Beats concert last May. Love claims the Georgia World Congress Center Authority violated his civil rights by denying him the freedom to speak on a public thoroughfare where thousands were gathered for the festival. According to attorney Tony Mangini of the Center for Religious Expression, Mr. Love should be allowed to speak on the public sidewalks like everyone else.…
The FTSE 100 has climbed to a fresh record high as UK markets reopened after the Christmas break. London’s leading share index rose to 7632.7 during Wednesday trading, advancing from all-time highs achieved last week to extend the market’s so-called “Santa rally”. It ended the session at 7620.7, 28 points up on its opening mark and a new closing high. The rally was supported by an upturn in copper and other commodity prices, which helped to lift global mining giants including Fresnillo, Antofagasta and Glencore. Demand for commodities implies optimism about the outlook for rapidly advancing world economies such as…
A series of travel warnings are in place as up to 15cm of snow is expected to blanket parts of the UK. Heavy snow is falling across Yorkshire, the North West and is expected in the East Midlands, with the Met Office warning of possible power cuts, travel delays and flight cancellations. Glasgow Airport has re-started operations after they were suspended due to weather conditions. Overnight temperatures dropped to -12.3C in Loch Glascarnoch in Scotland. The ground across much of the country is icy, with previous snowfalls now frozen solid. “Snow is falling on ice and it’s creating treacherous conditions,”…
Workers in the UK are facing the prospect of another year without a pay rise, a think-tank has warned. The Resolution Foundation (RF) said it was expecting zero growth in real wages over the course of 2018 as a whole. The pay squeeze which saw real wages fall back in 2017 is set to come to an end but a “noticeable” year-on-year rise in real pay is not forecast until December next year, the RF said. Real pay remains £15-a-week below its peak before the global financial crash of 2008 and is not expected to recover to its pre-crisis levels…
They stand like surreal monuments in the California scrubland: prototypes of Donald Trump’s proposed “big, beautiful” border wall between the US and Mexico. The eight 30ft high slabs are the first tangible part of the controversial project that the US President says will help solve America’s immigration problems. Eight construction companies were given the chance to produce their example of a wall that would work. Officials from Customs and Border Protection (CBP) are now testing those offerings. The wall was one of Mr Trump’s dominant campaign promises but few believe building it along 2,000 miles of border is realistic or…
An accident in treacherous conditions has closed the M1 and 24,000 homes are without power after overnight snowstorms hit the UK. A lorry crash has closed all three lanes of the M1 southbound prior to junction 19, with Leicestershire Police telling Sky News it was likely caused by the wintry conditions. There are tailbacks stretching several miles with people trying to return to work or from Christmas breaks. Police tweeted: “There has been an accident involving a lorry. Unfortunately, all lanes are currently blocked. Police and Highways are aware and are currently dealing. Please make alternative travel arrangements. Updates to…
Just three weeks after US President Donald Trump announced his decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and begin preparations to move the US Embassy there, more than 10 countries are considering the same move. Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely told Israel Radio the talks are taking place, though she declined to specify the countries. “I can only say that there are more than 10 countries,” Israel Hayom quoted her as saying. “We, at the Foreign Ministry, are working intelligently with each one. Every country has a different background.” “There are plenty more countries in the works,” she continued.…
Rain or shine, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, promised Christians he’ll “always be here for you” in a video he posted to Facebook on Christmas Eve. Standing on a balcony overlooking Jerusalem, Netanyahu wished Christians around the world a Merry Christmas and invited them to visit the holy city. He also made a huge promise to those who choose to go to Israel – a tour of the country with Netanyahu himself as tour guide. “Think of all the places you an walk – you can go to the ‘Jesus Boat’ in the Sea of Galilee, you can get to the…
Boris Johnson will warn Russia to stop cyber attacks which threaten Britain’s national security or face retaliation of a similar kind from the UK. He will say the UK has no malign intentions online but has the technical capability to fight cyber espionage. Mr Johnson is the first UK foreign secretary to visit Russia in five years. His trip follows Theresa May’s accusation last month that Russia was trying to “undermine free societies”. BBC diplomatic correspondent James Robbins says that relations between the two countries are “at best very bad, at worst, appalling”. The UK prime minister warned in November…
Microsoft is giving back to a 9-year-old boy from Ohio after he sacrificed his Christmas dream to help others. Like most other boys his age, what Mikah Frye wanted most was an Xbox One, but after seeing homeless people living out in the cold, Mikah asked his grandmother to use the $300 she was going to spend on the gaming system to purchase blankets for them instead. When Microsoft caught wind of his kind act, they decided to give Mikah the Xbox One he had given up. The billion dollar company surprised him over the weekend with the console, games…
