New car sales fell by nearly 7% last year in the biggest annual drop since 2008, according to industry figures. A slump in demand for diesel, stricter emissions rules, and falling consumer confidence ahead of Brexit were blamed for the decline. NHS bosses in England say a new 10-year plan could save up to 500,000 lives by focusing on prevention and GPs, mental health and community care will get the biggest funding increases.
