ARGENTINE PRESIDENT BANS GENDER TRANSITION SURGERY FOR MINORS – This move reflects Milei’s broader opposition to gender ideology

Argentine President Javier Milei has issued a decree banning gender transition procedures for minors and restricting the placement of biological males in women’s prisons.

Presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni announced the decision, which includes the repeal of a 2012 law that allowed transgender procedures for minors with parental consent. The ban also extends to hormone therapy.

Milei’s administration stated that children lack the capacity to consent to irreversible procedures and emphasized that prison policies should prioritize biological sex for safety reasons. “Forcing or coercing children into gender ideology is a form of child abuse,” the statement read. “Children do not have the cognitive maturity to make such life-altering decisions.”

The decree also mandates that inmates be housed according to their gender at the time of their offence. However, biological males who identify as female will be barred from women’s prisons if they have been convicted of sexual crimes, human trafficking, or violent offences against women.

This move reflects Milei’s broader opposition to what he calls “gender ideology,” a stance he has strongly advocated on the international stage.
