Valencia to come back stronger

Manchester United’s Antonio Valencia has pledged to return stronger than ever after undergoing surgery on a fractured arm.

The right-back sustained the injury against Manchester City in the EFL Cup last week and missed Saturday’s goalless draw at home to Burnley in the Premier League.

The Sun report the Ecuador international faces six weeks on the sidelines, which would put him out until the visit of Tottenham on December 11.

Valencia said: “Now I’m thinking only about recovery. I want to come back soon and help my team. I’ll come back stronger and I’m always optimistic.”

Valencia has made 11 appearances in all competitions under Jose Mourinho this season, but adds his name to a lengthening injury list at Old Trafford.

Eric Bailly is out until at least December with a knee injury, while fellow defender Chris Smalling also has a knock.

Anthony Martial sat with Bailly and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the stands on Saturday, where Mourinho eventually joined them after being sent-off at half-time against the Clarets, while Phil Jones is also out long-term.
