UK PRIVATE SCHOOLS TO LAUNCH LEGAL ACTION AGAINST VAT ON FEES- The government says private School fees may rise by 10%
The Independent Schools Council (ISC) says it will launch legal action against the government’s decision to impose VAT on fees for independent schools.
The council decided on Thursday, after a board meeting.
Chancellor Reeves earlier announced in the UK budget plan that 20% VAT would be applied to private schools from January 2025
However, the government said it would increase the funding allocated to the continuity of education allowance (CEA) to support mobile military and diplomatic families with boarding school fees for their children before VAT is imposed on private schools next year.
The government predicts that private school fees could rise by an average of 10% due to the introduction of VAT.
