U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met with the European Parliament President David Sassoli on Tuesday (September 3) as part of a series of meetings with EU institutions leaders to discuss Transatlantic cooperation.
During his two-day stay in the European capital Brussels which started on Monday, Pompeo was scheduled to meet European Council President-elect Charles Michel, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, European Commission President-elect Ursula von der Leyen, and EU Foreign policy chief nominee Josep Borrell.
On social media, Pompeo wrote earlier that the meetings would focus on ‘cooperation on economic and security issues’.
He also posted pictures of his dinner with von der Leyen, who will become the new head of the EU executive on November 1.
