THE STATE OPENING OF PARLIAMENT IS SET FOR 17 JULY – The new government is set to open parliament with 35 bills 

The State Opening of Parliament takes place on Wednesday 17 July marking the formal start of the parliamentary year and setting out the government’s agenda for the 2024-25 session.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s office has stated that Britain’s new government is preparing over 35 bills for the formal start of the parliamentary year on Wednesday, putting economic growth at the heart of its agenda. 

The Legislation is set to incorporate a bill to impose stringent new spending rules and reinforce the role of the independent Office of Budget Responsibility, as fiscal announcements will be properly scrutinised.

Keir Starmer, has stated that his government aimed to deliver stability, boost growth and create wealth across the country.

Keir Starmer recently returned to Britain, after attending the NATO summit last week in his first major international meeting as prime minister.

We are hitting the ground running by bringing forward the laws we will need to rebuild our country for the long-term – and our ambitious, fully costed agenda is the downpayment on that change.” he stated.

Through a new National Wealth Fund, the government hopes to attract private capital into upcoming industries to support growth and meet net-zero commitments.
