RACHEL REEVES IS SET TO BACK NEW THIRD RUNWAY AT HEATHROW – The Chancellor is preparing a broad endorsement of airport expansion to boost economic growth
Rachel Reeves is expected to support the construction of a third runway at Heathrow as part of Labour’s efforts to boost economic growth.
The Chancellor is preparing a broad endorsement of airport expansion to strengthen the government’s pro-growth stance amid economic challenges. Alongside backing the Heathrow project, the government is also set to approve a second runway at Gatwick and support plans to nearly double capacity at Luton Airport.
These proposals are part of a broader strategy to stimulate the economy. Last week, Ms. Reeves emphasized the need for the government to move “further and faster in driving economic growth.”
The plans for expanded airport capacity across the Southeast come as international markets have reacted negatively to the government’s economic policies, which include £40bn in tax increases. The Office for Budget Responsibility has warned that measures announced in last October’s Budget could hinder long-term growth.
