OLYMPICS IOC Milan confident in ‘sustainable’ bid for Winter Olympics

Milan’s bid for the 2026 Winter Olympics was environmentally sustainable, the mayor of Cortina told a news conference today.

The Italian bid, which also includes Cortina d’Ampezzo, was based on infrastructure which was already 95% in place, said Gianpietro Ghedina, mayor of the Alpine town which hosted the games in 1956.

Giancarlo Giorgetti, Italian Under Secretary-of-state, told journalists the games would trigger economic development which would sustain the region’s economy.

Only two bids are being considered by the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne, Milan’s rivals being Stockholm-Are in Sweden
