IRISH PARTY LEADERS MAKE FINAL PITCH FOR VOTES- Ireland’s general election will take place on Nov. 29
The leaders of Ireland’s largest parties made their final pitch for votes on Wednesday.
Polls suggest the three main parties are all but tied ahead of Friday’s vote after Prime Minister Simon Harris’ Fine Gael party lost a quarter of its support since the start of the campaign, according to one poll.
Nevertheless, Harris and his coalition partner Fianna Fail’s Micheal Martin remain on course for re-election, with both parties having ruled out going into government with opposition Sinn Fein led by Mary Lou McDonald.
Parties have sought to convince voters with robust spending plans, banking on a continued influx of foreign multinational corporate tax revenues..
With a strong economy, a population set to rise by up to 8% by 2030 and infrastructure provision 25% lower than many other high-income European countries, whichever party wins the Nov. 29 election will need to spend more just to keep up.
