US President Joe Biden has stated that health issues may be the only reason for him to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race. The American leader noted that he is ready to withdraw from the presidential race if doctors indicate health problems.
Within a day or two the U.S. President Joe Biden, under fire from fellow Democrats to drop his re-election campaign, says he has tested positive for COVID-19 while on a trip to Las Vegas and is self-isolating after experiencing mild symptoms.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre announced the positive test for the 81-year-old Democrat after Biden cancelled a speech due to the diagnosis.
The president is struggling to put down a slow-boil uprising among some congressional Democrats and some influential donors who fear he lacks the capacity to defeat Trump in light of his halting performance in the presidential debate last month.
Biden announced his re-election bid in April amid speculation and concerns about his age. Biden, already the oldest U.S. president ever, will have to convince voters he has the stamina for another four years in office, amid poor approval ratings and a special counsel report suggesting he suffered memory lapses.
