GERMAN TOWN OF ISERLOHN PREPARES TO HOST ITALY’S SOCCER TEAM FOR EURO 2024 –  Iserlohn’s mayor sees “huge” potential for his city of 92,000 inhabitants

When the Italian national soccer team sets up camp at its Euro 2024 base in the German town of Iserlohn later this year, coach Luciano Spalletti and his squad are likely to feel right at home.

Many of the staff at the hotel where the team will be staying are of Italian origin, and owner Susanne Schlueter described the atmosphere among her employees at the four-star Vier Jahreszeiten (Four Seasons) as “euphoric.”

Situated south of Dortmund in western Germany’s Sauerland region, Iserlohn’s mayor said he saw “huge” potential for his city of 92,000 inhabitants.

Asked whether there could be a repeat of the World Cup atmosphere which gripped Germany in 2006 and has since been described as “the summer fairytale,” mayor Michael Joithe said that with “all the current crises” around the world, Germans were ready to party.
