EU PARLIAMENT – Sets date to ratify BREXIT Agreement

EU Parliament President Antonio Tajani and Chairman of Brexit Steering Group Guy Verhofstadt expressed satisfaction with the draft Brexit deal in Strasbourg, a day after British Prime Minister Theresa May announced she had secured the backing of her fractious cabinet for the deal.

However, May’s Brexit secretary and other ministers quit in protest to the deal that they say will trap Britain in the bloc’s orbit for years.

Delivering a statement after a meeting with EU Brexit Negotiator Michel Barnier, Tajani said the draft document addressed three issues of concerns for EU lawmakers: the citizens’ rights, the Irish border and the financial settlement.

Verhofstadt, who is also head of the liberal group in the European Parliament, had this to say.
