The UK’s Labour Party has narrowly seen off a challenge from the anti-EU Brexit Party and held on to its seat in a vote in the eastern English city of Peterborough.

Labour’s Lisa Forbes retained the constituency for Labour, beating Nigel Farage’s candidate Mike Greene by 683 votes.

Ms Forbes said her victory was “significant” and showed people had “rejected the politics of division”.

The Brexit Party, launched only in April, swept to victory in the United Kingdom’s European Parliament election last month, riding a wave of anger over Prime Minister Theresa May’s failure to deliver Brexit on time.
