Police have released the first photo of a mother and her four-week-old daughter since they were reunited after the baby was taken during a carjacking.
An injured Claire O’Neill was pictured with young Eliza following what West Midlands Police described as a “terrifying ordeal” in Acocks Green, Birmingham.
Dozens of officers were deployed to search for the stolen grey Audi A3 S-line on Thursday afternoon, with the infant still in her car seat when it was taken.
Police initially feared she would be abandoned by the carjackers, urging members of the public to keep an eye out for her, but she was left at a health centre with the hunt still ongoing.
Meanwhile, Ms O’Neill was taken to hospital with leg injuries.
Officers believe the car was travelling towards Solihull, West Midlands, when it was last sighted and are still appealing for help in finding it.
Its registration number is BJ66 YLV.
Chief inspector Tony Cole said: “Our primary concern was the safe return of this young child and dozens of officers, including specialist resources, were drafted into the search, which I am so pleased has resulted in her safe return.
“We are still determined to trace the offenders who have put this mother through a 45 minute nightmare that she will never forget. Please help us with any information you may have which will assist our search.”
