Three astronauts are due to return to Earth from the International Space Station (ISS), one month after a rocket failure delayed an earlier attempt. The trio handed control of the ISS over to Russian cosmonaut Gennady Padalka, after more than 200 days in space. Among them is Samantha Cristoforetti, who has set the record for most time in space on a single mission by a woman. Their Soyuz spacecraft is due to undock from the ISS at 11:20 BST and land in Kazakhstan more than three hours later. The commander of Expedition 43, Terry Virts, and his crewmates Anton Shkaplerov…
Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott has urged Asia Pacific nations to fight jihadist groups, saying Islamic State (IS) has global ambitions. At a conference in Sydney on countering terrorist propaganda, he said IS was a death cult with far-reaching tentacles. Australia says more than 100 of its citizens are fighting with militant jihadist groups in Syria and Iraq. Last year, Australia raised its threat level to high and has conducted a series of counter-terrorism raids. The two-day regional security summit includes ministers from 25 countries, including Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, Laos, Vietnam and New Zealand. Representatives from Google, Facebook, Twitter and…
Some cities have a litter problem, some suffer from high crime rates and others might have a lack of affordable housing. And then you have Dubai, which for the last several years has been facing the unusual problem of high end sports cars being abandoned and left to gather thick layers of dust at airport car parks and on the roadside across the city. If you’ve ever been to Dubai or anywhere in the United Arab Emirates, you will have noticed they have a serious car culture out there, with a particular preference for the latest and greatest in high-end…
The special edition of the monthly Communion Services with the man of God, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, just concluded, and there several testimonies of miracles and healings were recorded. While one lady testified of the disappearance of a lump from her breast, another recalls seeing angels surgically remove a cyst and fibroids from her body as Pastor Chris prayed for the sick. Many more were in line to share the testimony of God’s wonder-working power in their lives. The man of God exhorts the congregation on the life of progressive glory to which every Christian has been called. More updates to…
And seek the peace of the city and pray unto the Lord for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace (Jeremiah 29:7) It’s imperative that you learn to take time out to pray for the nation where you live. It’s not enough to complain or grumble about what the Government is doing or not doing. You’re God’s agent of change in that nation; so, rise up to your calling. You have a responsibility to effect positive changes in the nation where you live, and a most effective way to achieve this is through prayer. God told His…
A senior FIFA official has claimed that Russia and Qatar could lose the right to host the 2018 and 2022 World Cups if any evidence of corruption is found. Domenico Scala, the head of FIFA’s auditing and compliance committee, told a Swiss newspaper their awards may be annulled if either country’s selection was “thanks to bribes”. However, he stressed “this evidence has not been provided” so far. Judicial authorities in Switzerland are currently investigating the process surrounding their selection, and questions have also been raised about the decision to award the 2010 World Cup to South Africa. Mr Scala’s remarks…
A woman has gone on trial in France for allegedly operating a scam in which thousands of Chileans paid millions of euros to produce a supposedly “magic cheese” for the cosmetics industry. Gilberte van Erpe, 74, is accused of selling a near-worthless powder as a costly domestic cheese-making kit. Buyers were lured with the promise of huge returns when their “cheese” was sold on for use in beauty products. The €14.5m (£10.6m; $16.14m) scam is one of the largest in Chilean history. Ms van Erpe, nicknamed Madame Gil by the French press, was arrested in 2008. She is being tried…
Kensington Palace has had millions cooing by releasing photographs of Prince George holding his sister Princes Charlotte. But what’s the story behind George’s clothes, ask Justin Parkinson and Paul Kerley. Taken by their mother the Duchess of Cambridge, the latest photos of Charlotte and George show the latter, now 22 months old, in knee-length light-blue socks, smart black shoes and a white and blue shirt. It’s on the traditional side. It’s not the first time such an ensemble has featured in royal pictures. George himself wore the same outfit, plus a cardigan, to visit his baby sister in hospital for…
Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said the inconclusive election result means no party can govern alone. His AK party is meeting to try to form a government after losing its majority in a general election for the first time in 13 years. It secured 41%, a sharp drop from 2011, and must form a coalition or face entering a minority government. Mr Erdogan has called on all parties to “preserve the atmosphere of stability” in Turkey. “I believe the results, which do not give the opportunity to any party to form a single-party government, will be assessed healthily and…
