US computer giant Dell has agreed a deal to buy data storage company EMC for $67bn (£44bn). EMC shareholders will receive $33.15 per share, $24.05 of which will be in cash. If approved by regulators, the deal would be the biggest in history between two technology companies. Falling demand for PCs means Dell is looking to expand into more lucrative businesses, and it has identified data storage as a key growth area. “Our new company will be exceptionally well-positioned for growth in the most strategic areas of next-generation IT ,” said Dell boss Michael Dell. EMC boss Joe Tucci said:…
Syrians leaving their homes for the safety of Europe often rely on people smugglers to help them reach their destination. But it’s impossible to know who to trust and things can go wrong. One woman ended up seeing a man, whose real name she didn’t even know, walk off with her one-year-old daughter. Zizit knew she had to leave Syria when she became a target for snipers and a bullet hit her car. She had taken a job as a doctor in a hospital in Damascus where an Islamic militant group approached her and demanded that she go and work…
If you want to say it loud, say it with a cruise. The missile delivers a message like few others. And the Russian Kalibr-NK speaks louder than most. Fired from about 1,000 miles away in the Caspian Sea the Russians insist that their targets were the so-called Islamic State. Most of the evidence is that they struck locations in western Syria where the death cult is thin on the ground or non-existent. The real point of using these spectacular weapons was less about hitting IS in Raqqa or other rebel groups in Aleppo and elsewhere. It was about showing the…
President Obama will travel to Roseburg in Oregon today to meet the families of victims killed in the mass shooting at a community college last week. His visit comes as America grapples with how to respond to the latest gun related massacre. With every mass shooting comes heightened fear over guns being anywhere near schools or colleges. In McLean, Virginia, parents are dealing with the arrival of a shop that sells high-powered weapons and handguns right next door to Franklin Sherman elementary school. On the morning school run, dad Matt Rampy said: “I’m outraged – I think it’s terrible that you…
A new study has warned that a third of all men currently under the age of 20 in China will eventually die prematurely if they do not give up smoking. The research, published in The Lancet medical journal, says two-thirds of men in China now start to smoke before 20. Around half of those men will die from the habit, it concludes. The scientists conducted two nationwide studies, 15 years apart, covering hundreds of thousands of people. In 2010, around one million people in China died from tobacco usage. But researchers say that if current trends continue, that will double…
Nato says Russia’s violation of Turkish airspace over the weekend “does not look like an accident”. Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg also said Russia had not provided “any real explanation” for two violations, which he called “unacceptable”. Russia has said the first violation lasted just a few seconds and was due to poor weather. It says it is looking into claims of a second violation. Russia launched an air campaign in Syria last Wednesday. Russia says it is targeting Islamic State and other Islamists, but Nato and allied states have expressed concern that Russia is concentrating its attacks on groups opposed to…
Pastor Chris Oyakhilome pronounces October 2015 to be ‘the Month of Expansion!’ Preceding the announcement of the word for October 2015, Pastor Chris read from Isaiah 54:2-3: “Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations…For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles…”With this scripture and the story of the widow who prospered at the word of the Prophet Elisha in 2 Kings 4, Pastor launched BLW citizens all over the world into a new level of abundance with prophetic words,…
The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) will create a new economic bloc with reduced trade barriers between the 12 nations involved. The deal was signed after five days of talks in Atlanta in the US but has been under negotiation for five years. It was delayed repeatedly by negotiations over drug patents. The other countries included in the TPP are Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, and Vietnam. US president Barack Obama said in a statement that the deal “reflects America’s values and gives our workers the fair shot at success they deserve”. “When more than 95…
