Israel’s cabinet has authorised police to seal off “parts of Jerusalem”, in an attempt to halt a wave of deadly attacks. After an emergency meeting, the cabinet said soldiers would also be deployed to help police in some areas. The moves come after police said three Israelis were killed and more than 20 hurt in shooting and stabbing attacks in Jerusalem and central Israel. Two attackers in Jerusalem, identified as Palestinian, were shot by police. Police said they acted after the assailants shot and stabbed passengers on a bus. A 62-year-old Australian man lost for six days in the Outback has been found alive after surviving without water and by eating ants, say police. Reg Foggerdy disappeared last week while pursuing a feral camel in a remote area of Western Australia state. Police trackers found him sitting under a tree on Tuesday morning around 15km (9 miles) from where he became lost. His family described him as an experienced bushman but have now told him to buy a satellite phone. Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 crashed as a result of a Russian-made Buk missile, the Dutch Safety Board says. The missile hit the front left of the plane causing other parts break off, it said in a final report into the July 2014 disaster, which killed 298 people. The West and Ukraine say Russian-backed rebels brought down the Boeing 777. But Russia claims a missile was fired from Ukrainian-controlled territory. The report does not apportion blame but says airspace should have been closed. Investigators could not determine at which point the occupants died, the report says, adding that it was not…

The US dentist who sparked an international outcry after killing a lion in Zimbabwe will not be prosecuted because he had obtained the legal authority to hunt, officials say. Walter Palmer admitted to killing Cecil the lion in July but has always denied that he acted illegally. Zimbabwe’s Environment Minister Oppah Muchinguri said he could not be charged as all his “papers were in order”. Mrs Muchinguri said Zimbabwe would now review how it issues hunting licences. Police will no longer be stationed outside the Ecuadorean embassy in London where Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has sought refuge since 2012, the Met Police has said. Officers had been there since Mr Assange sought asylum to avoid extradition to Sweden over a rape allegation, which he denies. The cost of the police presence is estimated to have been more than £12m.
