Tesco is on the verge of launching a “new retail format” that could challenge discount giants such as Aldi and Lidl. Six people have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman’s throat was cut in a Manchester hotel. Britons are being warned to stay out of the sun between now and Friday as the Met Office had issued an amber heatwave alert. Ryanair has warned jobs could be lost as it cuts the number of planes stationed in some of the countries where it faces strike action. Two people are dead and 12 others injured, including a child, after a gunman opened fire outside a restaurant in the Canadian city of Toronto.
