The UN General Assembly voted by 128 to 9 in favour of calling America’s declaration “null and void”, while 35 countries abstained. The UK car industry has reported its biggest monthly fall in domestic demand for over six years, with the Government squarely in the firing line. The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), as it has done in previous months, partly attributed the production decline on uncertainty following the Brexit vote. It reported a 28% fall in the number of cars produced for the UK market in November compared to the same month in 2016. While it said the figure represented the biggest drop in domestic demand since September 2011, it pointed out that it left production for UK consumers…

The United Nations is expected to vote Thursday against a Trump administration decision that recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Like Ronald Reagan before him, President Trump is taking on the United Nations. At the final Cabinet meeting of the year, he delivered some words of warning to the General Assembly about the capital of Israel vote. “They take hundreds of millions of dollars and even billions of dollars and then they vote against us. Well, we’re watching those votes,” the president said. “Let them vote against us. We’ll save a lot. We don’t care.” Earlier in the week,…

The competition regulator has formally cleared Tesco’s £3.7bn deal to buy wholesaler Booker, declaring it has no concerns following an in-depth review. The Competition and Markets Authority’s (CMA’s) decision meant the proposed tie-up, first announced in January, was now able to proceed to shareholder votes. Tesco is the UK’s largest grocery retailer while Booker is the largest wholesaler – supplying many of Tesco’s competitors. Following a consultation on its provisional findings last month, the CMA declared it was satisfied there were no implications for rivals or consumers. It said: “Tesco, as a retailer, and Booker, as a wholesaler, do not compete head-to-head…

House price growth looks set to grind to a halt next year as uncertainty, a lack of available homes and stretched budgets weigh on the market, according to surveyors. Figures from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) suggested that London would see a continuing trend of decline, spreading to the South East. However the RICS survey found that this would be balanced with growth in most other parts of the UK such as Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and northwest England, areas where prices have yet to recover to pre-financial crisis levels. The figures suggested that the annual rate of…

The Senate has approved the most sweeping overhaul of the US tax code in more than 30 years. Republicans cheered as the result of the 51-48 vote was announced. Measures included in the…

The Prime Minister has claimed her Government is “proving the doubters wrong” after securing a deal in the first phase of Brexit negotiations. Theresa May said her Brexit plans will not be “derailed” as senior ministers prepare to consider the future shape of the UK’s relationship with the EU. She said talks would now begin on an “implementation period” immediately after the formal date of Brexit. But some Tory Eurosceptics have already warned they will not accept arrangements which resemble continued EU membership during the transition to a new relationship. Boris Johnson called for Mrs May to strike a deal…

“Spread the blessings of God,” Pastor Chris instructs as he announces prophetic word for December 2017. The last Global Communion Service in the Year of Flourishing was one to remember, exceeding all expectations, as the BLW President, Reverend (Dr.) Chris Oyakhilome, called saints around the world to blessing-consciousness in a month declared to be that of benedictions. A benediction, Pastor Chris explained, “is a prayer of blessing, usually not for yourself but for others.” This, he said, after reading several examples of benedictions released by the Apostle Paul unto saints in Thessalonica, Ephesus and Galatia, including the popular blessings declared…

Zimbabwe’s incoming leader Emmerson Mnangagwa has hailed a “new and unfolding democracy” after returning from exile to replace Robert Mugabe. He also vowed to create jobs in a country where some estimates say 90% of people are unemployed. “We want to grow our economy, we want peace, we want jobs, jobs, jobs,” he told a cheering crowd in Harare. His dismissal led the ruling party and the military to intervene and force an end to Mr Mugabe’s 37-year…
