According to Rightmove, more than 36% of properties on the market have had their asking price reduced at least once, compared with the pre-pandemic average of 31.2%, as sellers tried to attract offers. He cannot play until January but can return to training from Monday. “It’s very good to have him back, he’s a very good player but more importantly a person to have around the group,” Frank said. “I’m pretty sure he’s also very happy to be allowed back in to play football and to be around his team-mates that he loves to be around,” he added. “He’s vibrant, definitely, and he’ll give us a lift. The government is poised to announce a £500m support package for Tata Steel to secure the future of the Port Talbot steelworks, in an agreement that could lead to as many as 3,000 job losses. Tata Steel UK, which employs about 8,000 staff at two of Britain’s four remaining blast furnaces, does not earn enough to cover the cost of decarbonisation on its own. About 4,000 people are…

The public inquiry into Lucy Letby’s crimes must be widened to examine the NHS’s “cover-up culture” over failures in patient safety, the health service ombudsman has said. The inquiry should also look into why so many hospital bosses ignore concerns about lapses in safety and victimise whistleblowers who raise them, Rob Behrens told the Guardian. He wants the inquiry to investigate how the NHS generally deals with failings in care, as well as exploring how Letby was able to murder seven babies and try to kill six others at the Countess of Chester hospital, despite senior doctors raising the alarm about…

Tory MPs have called into question a pledge of £1.62 billion to the Green Climate Fund, made by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak during the G20 summit, in India last week. The funding was pledged with the aim of assisting vulnerable regions in coping with the effects of climate change. Critics argue that this allocation of resources could have been better spent domestically, addressing issues such as special needs education, healthcare, and housing. Craig Mackinlay, the MP for South Thanet, said he was concerned over Western nations redirecting aid funds from humanitarian efforts to climate initiatives. Funding Shift May Help China…

Discount supermarket chain Lidl has revealed its British arm swung to an annual loss after battling to keep a lid on prices as its costs rose “across the board”. The group reported pre-tax losses of £76m for the year to 28 February against profits of £41.1m the previous year as it also invested heavily in the business.
