Steve Tomlin, who runs a Renault dealership in Britain, says sales of the Zoe small electric car have shot up this year, a turnaround he partly puts down to a fading of “range anxiety”, the fear of running out of power mid-journey. The revamped model, which has accounted for a third of Tomlin’s sales for a couple of months this year, has a range of 400 km (249-mile). By contrast the previous model, which drew much lower sales, offered 300 km when fully charged. “Range anxiety has gone away and once you explain how easy it is to live day…

Religious groups in England have strongly criticised the new lockdown rule banning communal worship. England’s four-week lockdown will see most religious services banned. Funerals will still be allowed, with a maximum of 30 attending. The Catholic Church described the ban as a cause of “anguish” and demanded the government gives its reasons for stopping services. The Muslim Council of Britain called for an urgent review of restrictions. The Catholic Church Bishops’ Conference said communal worship had helped many during the pandemic. Cardinal Vincent Nichols and Archbishop Malcolm McMahon, president and vice president of the association, also stressed that churches had…

A senior German government official said on Friday he was “deeply concerned” about the lack of progress in trade talks between the European Union and Britain given the heavy reliance of German companies on funding in the City of London. The City of London is Europe’s biggest financial centre but faces being largely cut off from the bloc when Britain’s post-Brexit transition arrangements expire on Dec. 31. Britain and the EU have entered an intensive phase in talks on a free trade deal, though EU access for financial firms in Britain is being dealt with separately by Brussels. “German corporates,…

A flurry of goals either side of halftime from Eddie Nketiah, Joe Willock and Nicolas Pepe gave Arsenal a comfortable 3-0 Europa League win over Irish side Dundalk on Thursday that puts them top of their group after two games. Total TOTF.PA trimmed its 2020 investment target on Friday after a sharp drop in third-quarter net profit, though the French oil and gas producer maintained its dividend. The company cut its investment target to $13 billion from $14 billion and said it was keeping a lid on operating costs too, even as it strives to grow in renewable energy and electricity markets. Energy companies were hit hard by COVID-19 lockdowns and the related collapse in fuel demand. The price of Brent crude has largely stayed above $40 a barrel since June, though Total on Friday said the market remained uncertain. France entered…
