Anger and confusion has arisen today over new lockdown restrictions which mean garden centres and pet stores can stay open while other retail stores are being forced to close. The new lockdown order, which follows on from national shutdowns in March and November, comes amid rising Covid infection and death figures across the country. But some shop owners have bemoaned the harsh new restrictions, which will see all non-essential shops shut until at least mid-February. While florists, clothes stores and book shops have…

A superb second-minute lob by Danny Ings gave Southampton a surprise 1-0 home win over Premier League leaders Liverpool, with the Reds’ attack looking rudderless as they were held scoreless for the second game in a row. With the injury-hit champions fielding a makeshift centre-back pairing of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, striker Ings, who joined Southampton on loan from Liverpool in 2018 before making the transfer permanent a year later, was able to exploit some confusion at a set piece to secure the win. The victory lifted Southampton to sixth in the table on 29 points, behind Tottenham Hotspur and…

A closely watched gauge of growth in British manufacturing activity rose to its highest level in three years last month, as factories rushed to complete work before the end of the post-Brexit transition period on Dec. 31. Jungfrau-Aletsch-Bietschhorn The Jungfrau-Aletsch-Bietschhorn region is a magnificent area with high mountain ranges, glaciers and is actually the most glaciated part of the European Alps. Visiting this area can be done relatively easy by car and if you want to go up, by train up to 3,400 metres above sea level, the highest train ride in Europe, the Jungfrau Railway is very impressive (and expensive!). The area is on the UNESCO World Heritage list because of its unique and wide range of flora and fauna and geological importance regarding the creating of the High Alps.
